Our services make use of corporate and individual certifications with industry standards and tools to help our clients remain focused on their mandates and priorities while reducing administrative costs. We have extensive experience in managing projects of all sizes for a diverse range of clients in compliance with one or more of the following industry standards.

The American Council for Technology (ACT) – Industry Advisory Council (IAC)

The American Council for Technology (ACT) – Industry Advisory Council (IAC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit, public-private partnership dedicated to improving government through the application of IT. ACT-IAC provides an objective, ethical, and trusted forum where government and industry executives exchange information and collaborate on how to improve government through the efficient and innovative use of technology. ACT-IAC also provides education and professional development programs to enhance the competencies and capabilities of the workforce.

Achievement by VIP: Select VIP federal team members participate in ACT-IAC across different levels, and have completed the Partners Program training.

Cisco SAFE Blueprint

The SAFE Blueprint from Cisco is a blueprint for security and VPN networks, based on Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video, and Integrated Data). It helps organizations to securely and successfully leverage the Internet.

Achievement by VIP: The VIP Network Infrastructure methodology is in alignment with this blueprint and its key principles.

The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI®)

The Carnegie Mellon® Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI ®) is a federal/academic partnership based on experience with software process improvement. The CMMI ® standardizes software engineering and management practices and describes a process maturity framework of five levels (1-5) that are recognized as a national standard of excellence and process maturity. Levels 2 and 3 (the Repeatable Level and Defined Level, respectively) are the commonly-sought levels by governments to ensure quality standards.

Achievement by VIP: VIP’s federal division has been appraised at CMMI® Maturity Level 3.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc (IEEE)

IEEE-USA is an organizational unit of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. created in 1973 to support the career and public policy interests of IEEE’s U.S. members. IEEE-USA’s mission as outlined in the IEEE Bylaws is to recommend policies and implement programs specifically intended to serve and benefit the members, the profession, and the public in the United States in appropriate professional areas of economic, ethical, legislative, social, and technology policy concern. IEEE’s vision is to serve the IEEE U.S. member by being the technical professional’s best resource for achieving lifelong career vitality and by providing an effective voice on policies that promote U.S. prosperity.

Achievement by VIP: Many organizations require specific adherence to a variety of IEEE standards, depending upon the scope of work. VIP complies with these standards, and our clients can vouch for the consistent quality of our deliverables.

The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC)

The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC) maintains a Common Body of Knowledge (CBK) covering all aspects of information security.  ISC2  is the premier certifying body within the Information Assurance field.  Professional experience and continuing education are distinguishing characteristics of the ISC2 , ensuring that certified professionals are armed with the latest knowledge in the cyber security field.

Achievement by VIP: VIP staffs ISCCertified Information System Security Professionals (CISSP) to develop and implement highly secure solution architectures that are ISO/IEC 17024 compliant. Further, VIP employs management techniques on our projects that protect our clients’ valuable data, intellectual property, and meet all confidentiality, integrity, and availability requirements.

The International Institute of Business Analysts (IIBA)

IIBA® is the leading worldwide professional association for business analysts. The mission of IIBA® is to develop and maintain standards for the practice of business analysis and for the certification of its practitioners. IIBA improves the business analysis profession through the dissemination of useful and effective practices to the practitioner community that enable practitioners to increase the value that their organizations deliver to their stakeholders. IIBA® produces the BABOK® Guide which contains a description of generally accepted practices in the field of business analysis.

Achievement by VIP: The BABOK® Guide provides the standard for all VIP business analysis efforts, including enterprise architecture evaluation, requirements elicitation and management, and business process re-engineering. VIP has established a Business Analyst Center of Excellence (BA CoE) which contains templates, graphics, and methodology which conform to the BABOK® Guide. 

ISO 9001

ISO 9001 is an internationally recognized series of quality management system standards that set the criteria for a quality management system and is the only standard in the family that can be certified to. This standard is based on a number of quality management principles including a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach and continual improvement. ISO 9001 helps ensure that customers get consistent, good quality products and services.

The Information Technology  Infrastructure Library (ITIL)

The U.K.’s Office of Government Commerce (OGC’s) Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is a customizable framework for IT service management. ITIL is a set of set of rules for how to deliver IT services more efficiently by improving management processes across IT departments that support networks, applications, databases, and systems.

Achievement by VIP: VIP has a commitment to the best practice IT Service Management approaches of ITIL. VIP has ITIL certified staff.

The  National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is a non-regulatory federal agency within the U.S. Commerce Department’s Technology Administration. NIST’s mission is to develop and promote measurement, standards, and technology to enhance productivity, facilitate trade, and improve the quality of life.

Achievement by VIP: VIP technical experts maintain current with NIST standards and guidelines. In addition to adhering to and implementing numerous standards as defined by NIST, VIP supports several working groups, such as the NIST Big Data Working Group (NBD-WG).

The Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)

The Project Management Institute (PMI) provides global leadership in the development of standards for the practice of the project management profession throughout the world. PMI’s premiere standards document, A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), is a globally recognized standard for managing projects in today’s marketplace. The PMBOK® Guide is approved as an American National Standard (ANS) by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). PMI’s Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification is the world’s most recognized professional credential for individuals associated with project management. In 1999, PMI became the first organization in the world to have its Certification Program attain International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 recognition.

Achievement by VIP: The PMBOK forms the basis of all VIP project work plans and deliverables. Of particular note, 90% of VIP project managers have achieved PMP certification. VIP consultants lead activities within local PMI organizations. As an example, VIP has been responsible for publishing the monthly Sacramento Valley Chapter newsletter as well as coordinating the monthly speakers for the PMI Government Forum.

Project Management Institute-Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®

The Project Management Institute (PMI) is the world’s largest not-for-profit membership association for the project management profession. Their professional resources and research empower more than 700,000 members, credential holders and volunteers in nearly every country in the world to enhance their careers, improve their organizations’ success and further mature the profession.

PMI’s worldwide advocacy for project management is reinforced by our globally recognized standards and certification program, extensive academic and market research programs, chapters and communities of practice, and professional development opportunities.

Achievement by VIP: In addition to the PMP track, VIP leads Agile projects adhering to the PMI’s Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP) recommended practices.  Certified PMI-ACP leaders help deliver solutions for VIP’s government and commercial clients that emphasize frequent deliveries of working software, customer collaboration, and productive response to change. PMI-ACP certified managers employ facilitative leadership practices while at the same time maximizing Key Performance Indicators leading to successful product deliveries.

Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Master (CSM)

The Scrum Alliance provides leadership in the effective execution of Agile Scrum practices. With over 250,000 member, the Scrum Alliance is the leading voice and facilitator of the global Scrum community. The use of Scrum practices on software development projects dramatically increases the success rate over what used to be called “traditional” methods. After overwhelming evidence of this success factor, Agile lifecycle driven projects are now the norm instead of the exception today.

Achievement by VIP: VIP mandates the use of effective development methodologies for our customer’s software development needs across both the commercial and government sectors. Every project is different and often requires custom tailored practices. VIP performs assessments of our customer’s software development needs and chooses the most appropriate development methodology. Typically Scrum is selected as an appropriate software development methodology. VIP has delivered numerous project successes using our highly-skilled project managers who typically hold both PMP and Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certifications.

The Unified Process (UP)

The Unified Process (UP) is based on Rational’s Unified Process (RUP) and is architecture-centric, iterative and incremental. UP involves everything from gathering system requirements to analysis, design, implementation and testing. The UP uses Unified Modeling Language (UML) to create models and documents throughout the software development process (including use cases, class/object diagrams, and state transition diagrams).

Achievement by VIP: VIP has used the unified software development process on numerous projects including the use of Rational’s full suite of tools (Requisite Pro, Rational Rose, XDE, ClearCase, and ClearQuest). VIP has considerable experience managing the unique challenges of this iterative and incremental development process.
